Go on strike and stand on the picket line till you lose.”"

50th Anniversary: Executive Order 10988 | FLRA.GOV:
Fifty years ago on January 17, 1962, Federal employees
first obtained the right to engage in collective bargaining
through labor organizations when President John F. Kennedy
issued Executive Order 10988, "Employee-Management Cooperation in the Federal Sector."

Executive Order 10988 issued as result of the findings of the Task Force on
Employee-Management Relations in the Federal Service, which was created
by a memorandum issued to all executive department and agency heads by
President Kennedy on June 22, 1961. In this memorandum the President noted that,
"The participation of employees in the formation and implementation of employee
policy and procedures affecting them contributes to the effective conduct of public business,
" and that this participation should be extended to representatives of employees and employee organizations.

State’s credit unions show growth - Business - The Buffalo News

State’s credit unions show growth - Business - The Buffalo News:

"“With an improving economic environment and an increased anti-bank sentiment,
we expect New York credit unions to end 2011 on a positive note,
” said William J. Mellin, the trade group’s president and CEO.

“We expect that trend to continue into 2012, as consumers seek the value
and benefits credit unions offer as other financial institutions raise current fees
and introduce new ones to a fee-weary public.”"

Invalid FMLA certification can form the basis of employment termination. : Employment Law Matters

Invalid FMLA certification can form the basis of employment termination. : Employment Law Matters:

"In order to support a valid claim of retaliation under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), an employee must demonstrate that the reason given for an adverse employment action was pretextual, and that the employee’s request for or use of FMLA leave was the actual basis of the action. The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has held that an employer’s rejection of an invalid FMLA certification was a valid reason for termination, and that the employee’s inability to proffer evidence of an alternate explanation for the company’s actions led to the dismissal of her lawsuit. Coffman v. Ford Motor Company, 6th Cir., No. 10-3842, unpublished opinion, 11/22/11."

U.S. Manufacturing Gains Jobs as Wages Retreat - NYTimes.com

U.S. Manufacturing Gains Jobs as Wages Retreat - NYTimes.com:
“Some companies want to keep work here, or bring it back from Asia,” Mr. Pavy said,
“but in order to do that they have to be competitive in the final prices of their products,
and one way to be competitive is to lower the compensation of their American workers.”

The shrunken pay scale for newcomers — $12 to $19 an hour versus $21 to $32 an hour for longtime workers —
threatens to undo the middle-class status of even the best-paid blue-collar jobs still left in manufacturing.
A similar contract limits the wages of new hires at a nearby Ford Motor Company stamping plant,
but neither G.E.’s 2,000 hourly workers nor Ford’s 2,900, nor their unions nor the mayor, Greg Fischer, have objected.

“The top corporate tax rate in the United States is 35 percent, one of the highest in the world,” but General Electric, whose CEO was recently tapped to lead Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, pays no taxes at all, reports the New York Times
The company reported worldwide profits of $14.2 billion, and said $5.1 billion of the total came from its operations in the United States.  Its American tax bill? None. In fact, G.E. claimed a tax benefit of $3.2 billion.
This negative tax rate is the product of lobbying aimed mostly at liberal lawmakers. “G.E. has spent tens of millions of dollars to push for changes in tax law,” such as “‘green energy’ credits for its wind turbines.” “Since 2002, the company has eliminated a fifth of its work force in the United States while increasing overseas employment.”
