Applications for the Verizon Scholarship Program are now available for high school seniors who are children of active Verizon employees and who plan to attend a four-year college or university in the fall of 2012.
The needs-based scholarships are offered to high school seniors who have exceptional academic records and demonstrate leadership and participation in their schools and communities. The scholarship program is open to children of U.S.-based Verizon employees as well as Verizon employees outside the U.S.
Each scholarship is $5,000 per year, renewable for three additional years for a maximum of $20,000 over a four-year period. All selections are made by Scholarship America, the largest nonprofit, private-sector scholarship and educational support organization in the nation. Scholarship applications must be submitted electronically by Feb. 1, 2012.
Applicants to the Verizon Scholarship Program must be:
Children of active employees who have a minimum of 90 days of employment with the company as of Feb. 1, 2012. The parent or legal guardian must be on the Verizon payroll when award decisions are made in April 2012.
High school seniors who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited four-year college or university no later than fall 2012. (Full-time study is defined as full-time enrollment for the entire upcoming academic year.)
For an application and guidelines, go to Scholarship America. If you need additional information, visit the Q&A section of the Verizon Scholarship Program on the Verizon Foundation’s website.
